I was searching for 1958 and 1959 issues of the Marauder, your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. My name is Jon Gilmour and I'm looking for Robert Graysmith cartoons as he worked for the base paper for those two years after graduating from Oakland CA. He also was active in the local Boy Scout troop then. My email is tomscrater@gmail.com
According Graysmith, he started as a copy boy and illustrator at the Marauder around 1953-54. He worked at the Oakland Tribune while he went to college, and went from there to the SF Chronicle in the spring of 1969. Cartooning was NOT his main job, not by a long shot. So I don't think you'll find any cartoons of his from before 1969. I have a few from the early 1970s.
Well, he worked at the Marauder from 1953ish to 1960, then returned to the Bay to start college. He mostly covered sports as an illustrator, paste up artist, and sometime reporter. He's always covered up the fact that he worked in the darkroom of every paper he ever worked at.
Born Dec 8 1950,Hutchinson Kansas, raised in a Air Force family, moved 10 times and went to 9 different schools before i graduated from yamato high school Japan in 1969.
